.What's this I hear about Greenville now running some plays out of the shotgun???  Was this your doing or was it one of Coach Stone's latent ideas just now coming to fruition?

Coach Stone has wanted to use the gun for years and I was against it.  He will get his wish if we can correct a few things.

boxers or briefs?

Boxers.

Because of the reclassification that took place last year.  Are you obligated to your section and/or class for two years before changing to a different section and/or class?

Yes.  We are in the same section for a two year period.  Next year the region makeup will probably change again.

After reviewing the rosters of some of the other teams in section 3 and 4,alot of them are heavy laden with returning starters.  Do you see this as a major obstacle and/or will it change how you do thing this year?

There is an outstanding group of seniors in both regions this year.  We are fortunate to play in an area with a ton of good teams.  We are looking forward to the weekly challenge.

the trojans looked a little weak in the running part of the game last year, how does this year compare to last?

We hope to improve our running game this year.  We have worked hard in the off-season to get bigger, stronger, and faster.  We hope it will pay off this fall.

Taking over as captain of the trojan ship you have to be excited about the amount of talented veterans on the team. do you have any new wrinkles in mind? and what underclassman are expected to step up?

The seniors have really taken ownership of the program this summer.  The whole staff is excited to get things going.  As far as new wrinkles, we intend to get the ball to our playmakers and are willing to do so in a variety of ways.  All of the underclassman have worked hard and we will have to wait and see what contributions they will make.

As important as any coach (you are the most important of course) are good stats people. I hear you picked up two of the best. Congrats on that! :-)

I am excited to welcome Whendy Kozminski and George Emmett to the Trojan Team.  They will be great additions to our program!

how strong is region 3 this year?

Region 3 is loaded.  We will have to be ready to go to battle every week.

Coach:
Will the boys who may earn playing time on both j.v. and varsity be required to practice with both on Thursday nights (the j.v. after school and the varsity under the lights)?
Thank you.

We will try to work out a system where they will have some free time on Thursdays to do homework and there chores at home.

As far as receivers who will you have besides S. Ferguson? Will you have a deep threat?

Chad Hanna, Nate Houpt, Rich Herron, Josiah Rupert, Justin Ferguson, and Dylan Zuschlag will all be competing for playing time.

How did the first scrimmage go...

We use the first scrimmage to evaluate people and in that aspect, it went well.  We were very pleased with the hitting, and we also hope to see some improvement this week against Sharpsville.

What's you're starting line-up going to look like?  Will there be many going both ways?

We won't know until after the second scrimmage.  We are hoping to play as many people as possible.  We will need to have some of our younger kids step up this week Friday against Sharpsville.

How does it feel to be the head coach?  Good Luck this season...

Coach Stone gave me a lot of authority the past 16 years as an assistant, so this was an easy transition.   By keeping the staff intact, my job has been very easy so far.  Thank you, we'll take all the luck we can get.

Congrats Coach Herrick on getting the Greenville coaching job.  I'm sure there was no doubt in your mind-LOL!  Will we see Greenville pass the ball more under you?

We will do whatever it does to win games.  You have to run the ball effectively to win games in our region.  However, we will work hard on our passing game, in case we need it.

are you going to continue using a vanilla defense or are you going with a more sophistacated situational nfl style defense

We will try to stop the run first.  I don't have much experience with NFL defenses, so we'll do what we are comfortable with on defense.

Still a Detroit Lions fan?

Yes, as long as they're winning.  I would love to see Billy Simms or Barry Sanders come out of retirement.

Any early standouts on either side of the ball?

We are preaching a "team" concept and so far, the kids have responded well.  We are pleased with our effort and attitude so far.  I hope you will see some outstanding performances in the upcoming weeks.

Who will be your top two running backs this year?  or at least get the majority of the carries

We are hoping to use a "running back by committee" approach.  We have a number of kids who have the potential to be good backs, and we would like to spread the ball around a bit.

As of now who will be handling the Kick Return and Punt return?  Those are keys to every game.....

Justin and Shaun Ferguson, Dylan Zuschlag, Chris Fragapane, R.J. Malson, Chad Hanna, and Taylor Malson are all in the running for our return positions.

First of all, congratulations on your new position and good luck this season.
Last year you guys led the Region in passing yards. With you returning your QB and a 1st team all Region WR do you see yourselves improving on that or will you concentrate more on a ball controll offense this year?

First of all, thank you.  Obviously, there is more involved in the passing game than the throwing and catching aspects.  We need to be able to protect as well.  Shaun Ferguson is a great play maker, and we need to get him the ball.  Josh Chisholm, David Holiga, and Zach McGranahan have all worked hard this summer, and we hope to see the results in the fall.

Pedict your record this year..... I know it would be hard to but take a guess coach Herrick.

My head coach in high school taught me that coaches don't predict.  We will leave that for more knowledgeable people.  We hope to play hard every week and give the people of Greenville something to be proud of.

how many returning seniors do we have coming back this year?

We have 19 seniors on the roster.

Uncle Brian - how is the football going and will we get free tickets to every game this year - Emily and Owen

Hi Babe!  I will save tickets for you, Owen, Addision, and your mom, but your dad will have to pay full price.  Good luck in school next week and study hard.

When looking at the varsity roster I noticed a lot of 10th graders, will they see substantial playing time?

We are dressing all sophomores this year for varsity games.  We are looking for a number of them to make significant contributions.

Rumor has it that Greenville Football is trying to raise money to build a new field house and turf on the field?

We would love to have both, and in that order.

Hows the secondary look on defense.....Who do you have penciled in where so far...

We are very pleased with the progress of our secondary.  There are a number of people who are vying for the positions.  The picture will become more clear after this week's practices and Friday's scrimmage.

any positvive or negative thoghts on the first scrimage

We were very pleased with the hitting and our knowledge of the system, but we still have a lot of things to work on.  It was a typical first scrimmage.

I hear Tressel runs a very complex and exciting offense.  Ever think of adapting your offense after his?  Love Addison - GO BUCKS!!!!

You know I'm a big Tressel fan and judging from his record, he must be doing something right.  Please stop brainwashing your kids and let them choose their own college team.  GO IRISH!!

who will be calling this years offense?

I will still be calling the plays this year.  Coach Tokar and Coach Menold will both be very instrumental in the development of the weekly game plans.

i hear you have a 280lb. tackle who wants to score both running and catching the ball this year

The 280 lb tackle of whom you speak tackled me during the first week of camp in a defensive line drill and blew any chance he has of scoring this year, unless he recovers a fumble.

is greenville going to have a fast secondary this year?

We don't have any 4.4 kids, but we think we can hold our own in our secondary this year.

Going into the season, what do you see as the strengths of this team and what areas do you hope feel need to improve for this team to have an opportunity to win the Region?

Senior leadership is our strength right now.  This year's seniors have been a part of the varsity team for three years now.  It is now up to them to help the underclassmen to step up and play together as a team.

I would like to thank all of you tonight.  We hope to see you at our games this fall.  We open with Girard on Friday, August 31 at home.  All of our games are at 7:00 this year.  Thank you also to all of you fans who keep in touch through the website.  We are always looking for new sponsors to support the website and our program.  Thank you again.

Coach Herrick
